The short version: this website has no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no forms. We learn about you only if you choose to email or phone us.
What we collect
When you contact us. If you email or phone us, we receive what you send or say: usually your name, your email address or phone number, your company and what you would like help with. We use it to reply, to discuss and provide our services, and to keep ordinary business records. We do not sell it, rent it or use it for mailing lists you did not ask to join.
When you visit the site. The site itself collects nothing about you. It sets no cookies, runs no tracking or analytics scripts, and has no sign-in. Like any website, though, the companies that deliver it can see technical details of each visit, as described next.
What our service providers can see
- Netlify hosts the site. Its servers handle your request and may log technical details such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google, so Google receives your IP address and browser details, under Google's own privacy policy.
- GoDaddy holds our domain name and runs our email, so it handles the messages you send to a hillierconsulting.ca address.
- LinkedIn. The LinkedIn links take you to LinkedIn, which applies its own privacy policy once you are there. Nothing is shared with LinkedIn unless you click.
- GitHub hosts the downloads for our software programs. The program download pages ask GitHub for the latest version number, so GitHub sees your IP address when you open one of those pages.
These providers act for us in running the site and email. We do not give them your information for any other purpose.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers above as far as they need it to run the site and our email, or where the law requires it. Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, so it may be subject to the laws of those places.
How long we keep it
We keep correspondence for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and, if you become a client, to meet our professional and business record-keeping duties. After that we delete it.
Your choices
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you have a concern we have not resolved.
To limit what the providers above can see, you can use your browser's privacy settings or a tracking-protection extension. The site works the same either way.
